Jamaica Dive Shop
In an Animation Preproduction class I took, one assignment was to design an environment of our choice. The idea of a Jamaica dive shop sprang to mind.
I began doing online research to gather reference material in order to capture the feel of the place and the accuracy of the particulars. During that process I took screenshots and made pencil sketches on paper, noting details and jotting down sources.
I then created a basic 3D layout in Maya so that I could choose a camera angle I liked. I imported the resulting screenshots into Photoshop for my layout guide.
Because the final presentation image was to be 1920 x 1080 px (to match HD video's standard dimensions), I started with a 5333 x 3000 digital canvas (the same aspect ratio, times about 2.78) to ensure sufficient resolution to overcome Photoshop's raster/lossy output.
I then modeled each of the environment's elements in Photoshop. The final file contains over four hundred individual layers.
