CARTOON DOODLES

An exercise in Ivan Brunetti's wonderful Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice book inspired this project, a page of doodles, which I undertook as part of my ongoing process of learning how to cartoon. Although in the book it was supposed to be a one-week assignment, it actually took me two months, start-and-stop to finish, to think up the ideas (72 of them), do the drawings by hand (sometimes many pages of the same thing over and over), and complete the suggested black-and-white checkerboard scheme (scaling all of the individual drawings to fit a grid and do reversals for half of the images). I used Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to complete the layout.
